BSE Soil Analysis – Suitable for Meeting SFI Scheme Requirements

By carrying out this soil analysis you will receive an Organic Matter % figure to meet point number 3 of the requirements. You will also receive data on pH, element concentrations in the soil and a physical analysis with your soil composition.

The SFI actions include SAM1 which requires and incentivises the carrying out of a soil analysis and creation of a soil management plan in return for payment under the agreement.

Land that is eligible for this is as follows:

  • Arable land.
  • Permanent grassland.
  • Land used for perennial crops (such as fruit and flowers).

In order to complete the SAM1 action the following must be completed:

  1. Carry out a soil assessment across all land entered into the scheme.
  2. Produce a soil management plan for this land.
  3. Test the Soil Organic Matter (SOM) levels for all land entered within the last 5 years.

Elements analysed are:

  • Phosphate
  • Potassium
  • Magnesium
  • Calcium
  • Sulphur
  • Sodium
  • Manganese
  • Copper
  • Iron
  • Zinc
  • Molybdenum
  • Boron

How does a soil analysis work?

  • On placing your order we will send over a soil sample bag and addressed pre-paid envelope.
  • Take a number of soil samples from different areas of your plot, until the bag is half full.
  • Post back your soil to the laboratory for analysis.
  • Results are generally available in around 10 working days after posting to the laboratory.
